FAQs
Do I have to be in San Diego to see you or do you offer telehealth?
You don't have to come to San Diego to work with me. We can do this via telehealth. I've worked with many clients using HIPPA compliant telehealth services such as Zoom, and it works just as well as it does in person. Often my clients aren't located in my area, they're in different parts of the country and the world so being able to connect with me using telehealth to do the deeper trauma work has been a great option. To learn more about telehealth services, click here or complete the contact form and we can discuss your needs further.
How many sessions will I need?
We can work together as long as you need to until you achieve relief. The great thing about the ITR model is that it's an empowerment and solution focused model, and my aim is for you to learn it as we use it that way when you feel like you've completed your time with me, you'll be proficient in using for yourself into your future.
Intensive therapy sounds scary. Is it?
Intensive doesn't mean forcing you to relive your trauma experiences. What intensive means in our work together is that you go through your therapy more quickly, thoroughly and powerfully because you do it in consecutive hours ie: 2-5 hours at a time instead of prolonging your therapy into week after week, months or years. So, if we schedule 20 hours of work to complete your processing, and you choose to do 10 hours per week, you will complete your trauma work in two weeks' time. Or if a one hour a week session is the way to go for you, then that works too. Go here to learn more about intensive trauma therapy or submit your question via the contact form and we can schedule a time to talk, that way I can learn more about your needs.
I'm scared to deal with my trauma, it's been such a struggle for me.
I get that, you're not alone. This is a normal response to something abnormal that happened to you. This can be a scary time. The very first thing I will do is to teach you how to ground yourself when feelings, thoughts and body sensations overwhelm you, from there we'll identify triggers that create the overwhelming feelings. In the beginning our goal is to create a safe place for those upsetting feelings, learning how to ground yourself is some of the most important work you will do in our work together. Our work together is more than just trauma informed, it's trauma effective which means we won't just talk about it, we'll roll up our sleeves and do hands on work around it to get you to a place where you feel relief.
We won't stop there either; together we'll work to increase your awareness around any negative beliefs you've developed and the brave ways you have learned to protect yourself in order to survive. Ultimately, you'll learn to become a more compassionate and accepting observer of yourself and the parts of you that experienced trauma. To learn more about the ITR process click here.
How do I know if I have trauma or PTSD?
I'm guessing if you're already suspecting it, you may have experienced trauma. But I have a couple of self-scoring assessments you can take now that might help you learn if you've experienced trauma in childhood and how it's impacted you. Go here to take the ACES assessment to see if you have childhood trauma and here to take the Resiliency Questionnaire to understand more about your resiliency. Should you choose to work with me I have a battery of other assessments that are more in depth that will help determine if you've experienced trauma. Feel free to take the ACES and Resiliency assessments and on your own and if you have more questions about how I can work with you, please use the contact form to send a request or call me at 619-335-5959.
Do you take insurance?
I don't take insurance; my services are private pay.
I’ve tried other therapies, and they haven’t worked. Why should I try ITR?
Because it's not like anything you've experienced before and it's likely you haven't even heard about it and its ability to end the cycle of trauma. Click here to learn more about ITR.
How does it work? What do I have to do in sessions?
I'm more than happy to spend time with you and explain how the ITR Method works. It's worth the time, I promise. Make an appointment and we can talk for about 20-30 minutes, and you can learn more about it. For now, go here and here to learn more about ITR.
How long will it take?
Great question. It varies for everyone. The suggested amount of time is 20 hours to learn the different components of this method so you process trauma as well as learn how to apply it for yourself, which are two of the goals in this experience here at A New View of You.
Everyone’s circumstances are unique to them and the length of time to learn the ITR process to allow you to accomplish your goals depends on your desire for personal development, your commitment, and the factors that are driving you to seek counseling in the first place.
Do I have to do all the hours in one week or can I break it up?
I'm glad you asked. It's your time, you can break them up, do them consecutively or both. I'm aware it's a time commitment on your end and will be as flexible as I can be. We can discuss your needs further in a one-on-one conversation to help answer your questions more thoroughly.
Thank you for learning more about how A New View of You can help.
If you have more questions, don't hesitate to shoot me an email with them or carve out 15-20 minutes for a phone call or zoom meeting and you can tell me what your needs are right now. I look forward to talking with you.
